Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano had sworn in as the Chief Judge for the state, Hon. Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu.

Justice Onwuamaegbu who is the first female Chief Judge in Anambra state took over from the former Chief Judge of the state, Hon Justice Peter Umeadi who retired from service, voluntarily.

Today as she marks her 65th birthday, she bows out as the Chief Justice of Anambra after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 for High Court justices. The first female CJ’s tenure in the chequerd history of Anambra is regarded by many as eventful.

Her exit, no doubt will be missed by many. A lawyer, Ifeanyi Agwuncha chronicled her historic accession and her perception by lawyers within and outside the region and here is what he wrote:

The Hon. Chief Judge of Anambra State, Hon. Justice Ijemabalum Onwuamaegbu calls it quits on her sojourn on the Bench today.

She clocks 65, today is her birthday and her official swansong on the Bench.

Her career like that of many has its plus and criticism, the general consensus is that she fared well.

She blazed the trail.

She is the first female Chief Judge of Anambra State.
