Erika Kirk, widow of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, delivered an emotional tribute on Thursday, thanking first responders, staff, President Donald Trump, Vice-President JD Vance, and their two young children following her husband’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University.

Speaking in a livestream from Turning Point USA headquarters in Arizona, Mrs. Kirk stood beside her husband’s empty podcast chair, quoting the Bible and recalling his devotion to Trump, Vance, the United States, and their family. “My husband’s voice will remain,” she vowed.

The broadcast began with minutes of silence focused on the empty chair before Mrs. Kirk offered a prayer. Fighting back tears, she thanked first responders and White House officials. “Mr President, my husband loved you. And he knew you loved him too,” she said, also thanking JD Vance and his wife Usha for escorting Kirk’s casket back to Arizona.

She emphasized Charlie’s love for his family: “Charlie loved his children. And he loved me. With all his heart. And he made sure I knew that every day.” Turning to the suspected shooter and “evil-doers,” she warned: “You have no idea the fire you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo like a battle cry. If you thought my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea what you’ve unleashed across this country and world.”

Mrs. Kirk said her husband’s university tour would continue through autumn and beyond, and confirmed his podcast will also go on. She spoke of their one-year-old son and three-year-old daughter, saying she reassured them: “Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus.” Family members, including their children, were present when Kirk was shot.

Erika Kirk, 36, a businesswoman and former Miss Arizona USA, married Charlie in 2020. She is pursuing a doctorate in Bible studies, runs a ministry programme, hosts the Midweek Rise Up podcast on Biblical leadership, acts, models, and manages a faith-based clothing line. While open about family life, she shields her children’s identities online.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was a polarising conservative figure. Founder of Turning Point USA at 18, he was a leading voice in Donald Trump’s MAGA coalition, mobilising young voters, and advocating gun rights, opposition to abortion, criticism of transgender rights, and controversial claims about Covid-19. Supporters praised him as the “future of conservatism,” while critics said his rhetoric harmed vulnerable groups, especially LGBT communities.

He was shot Wednesday during a Turning Point USA “American Comeback Tour” event while taking a question on gun violence and transgender issues. The suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, surrendered and was arrested Thursday evening.

Following the attack, Trump announced he would award Kirk a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him a “giant of his generation and champion of liberty,” adding that Mrs. Kirk was “absolutely devastated.” Turning Point USA described him as a “martyr,” “pioneer,” and “the ideal husband and father,” urging prayers for the family.

On Thursday, JD Vance retrieved Kirk’s casket in Salt Lake City and flew it to Phoenix, Arizona, aboard Air Force Two, accompanied by his wife Usha and close friends of the family.
