The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has launched a digital initiative called “Thank A Soldier” to enable Nigerians to connect with serving troops and the families of fallen heroes.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Badaru explained that the platform forms part of the activities lined up for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD).
Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru described the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD), themed “Valour, Sacrifice and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes”, as a national moment to reflect on and appreciate the military’s sacrifices for Nigeria’s peace and sovereignty.
He said the celebration will foster stronger civil-military bonds through remembrance activities, community service, and national solidarity, with greater involvement of youth and civil society to boost patriotism.
Key events include:
• National Emblem Appeal Launch by President Bola Tinubu on November 27
• Interfaith services
• Humanitarian day
• National symposium
• Wreath-laying ceremony on January 15, 2026
Badaru emphasised that the initiatives convey Nigeria’s gratitude to troops and their families, commended President Tinubu’s support under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and pledged continued reforms for national security and troop welfare.
He urged Nigerians to wear the remembrance emblem proudly and to “honour our past, support our present, and secure our future.”
Let’s do this. We hope that the Nigerian police would key into this initiative where Nigerians can appreciate them.
