Immediate Re-Arrest and Full Forensic Investigation Demanded
It is with profound grief and absolute outrage that we announce the tragic and brutal killing of our colleague, Late Barrister Temitope Odu, who was violently strangled to death by her husband, Mr. Christopher Odu, on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at their residence in Adamo, Ikorodu. This heinous act reportedly occurred in the presence of their young son, multiplying the trauma inflicted on the family.
Barr. Temitope Odu was a bright, newly admitted lawyer, having just answered the call to the Nigerian Bar. She was a mother, a colleague, and a human being whose promising future was violently stolen by an act of extreme domestic violence.
A DISTURBING INDIFFERENCE TO JUSTICE
In a deeply distressing and unacceptable turn of events, we have confirmed that the primary suspect, Mr. Christopher Odu, was released by the police station earlier today, despite the gravity of the alleged crime.
Compounding this injustice, the family has been informed that the perpetrator intends to hastily bury the deceased’s body tomorrow (October 23rd, 2025). This rushed attempt to inter the victim raises grave concerns about the potential for evidence tampering and a deliberate miscarriage of justice.
The actions of the police thus far are deeply troubling and suggest a disturbing indifference to the scourge of domestic violence and femicide in our society. We cannot and will not allow institutional inaction to prevent accountability in this clear case of femicide.
OUR NON-NEGOTIABLE DEMANDS
As advocates for justice, we must stand in absolute solidarity with the Odu family and the innocent children left behind. We demand immediate and decisive action from the Lagos State authorities to ensure justice is served for Temitope.
We implore all concerned citizens, members of the Bar, and human rights organizations to join us in demanding:
1. IMMEDIATE RE-ARREST: Mr. Christopher Odu must be immediately re-arrested and detained to ensure he cannot flee justice or interfere with the ongoing investigation.
2. POSTPONEMENT OF BURIAL AND MANDATORY AUTOPSY: The burial of the deceased must be postponed indefinitely pending a full, transparent, and independent inquiry, including a mandatory forensic autopsy to secure all necessary evidence.
3. TRANSPARENT INVESTIGATION: The Lagos State Police Command must conduct a transparent and thorough investigation, and all officers involved in the suspect’s inexplicable initial release must be held accountable for their negligence.
4. AMPLIFICATION OF FAMILY’S VOICE: We must amplify the voice of the Odu family and the children in their quest for truth and accountability.
Let us rally as a community to condemn this act, demand better protection for victims of domestic violence, and ensure that no perpetrator of such a heinous crime is allowed to evade consequences. We owe it to the memory of Barr. Temitope Odu to ensure that justice prevails.
