The Lagos State Government has debunked the news making the rounds that the Lagos State Government has unveiled a significant overhaul of its tenancy laws, introducing a suite of measures designed to curb exploitative rental practices and bolster tenant rights in Nigeria’s most populous city.
The reforms, which was reported announced earlier this month, imposed stricter limits on landlords, including how much rent they can demand in advance and how they may legally terminate tenancies.
However, the Lagos State Government refuted such claims adding that the Ministry of Housing is currently engaging stakeholders, including practitioners, the Nigerian Bar Association, CDC, CDA and our royal fathers at the 5 IBILE divisions.
The Tenancy Law of Lagos State 2015 is still in force.
