In a poignant ceremony that united government officials, Judges, family members, and dignitaries, with lawyers in mass attendance, the remains of the late Diokpa Ezinna G.S.O. Odum were interred in his hometown Onicha Ugbo, Delta State. The funeral, held on 22 October, 2025, paid tribute to a man whose life was marked by dedicated service not only to his immediate family but to the society at large.
The atmosphere at the interment was one of deep respect and reverence. The service, which began with a powerful Requiem Mass, at the All Saints Catholic Church, Onicha Ugbo, Delta State saw Odum filled with a kaleidoscope of Nigerian society. His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Judges and retired judicial officers, Senior Advocates, and esteemed members of the political class travelled from across the nation to pay their final respects.
The presence of the legal fraternity was particularly conspicuous. Their mass attendance underscored the deep camaraderie and solidarity within the Bar, extending support to one of their own during a time of grief.
In his emotional tribute, A. O. Odum SAN described his father as his first mentor, a disciplinarian who instilled the values of integrity, hard work, and justice that defined his own successful legal career. He recounted his father’s unwavering commitment to community development and his role as a foundational pillar within his extended family and the church.
Eulogies delivered throughout the day consistently painted a picture of Diokpa Odum as a man of uncommon wisdom, humility, and unwavering faith. The officiating minister urged the mourners to celebrate a life well-lived, focusing not on the sorrow of his departure, but on the enduring legacy he left behind—a legacy clearly reflected in the successful paths of his children and the positive impact he made on his local community.
The final procession to the graveside was a solemn affair, marked by traditional rites and communal prayers. As the earth received his remains, it was clear that Diokpa Ezinna G.S.O. Odum’s passing marks the end of a noble era. Though he is gone, his spirit of dedication, his principled approach to life, and the strength of the family he built, particularly through the remarkable professional standing of A. O. Odum SAN, will continue to inspire generations.
